English Translation
'Abd al-Samad narrated to us: Zakariyya b. Sulaym al-Muqri narrated to us, saying: I heard a man narrating to 'Amr b. 'Uthman, while I was present, that he heard 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Bakra narrating that Abu Bakra told them that he witnessed the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, standing upon his mule when they brought a pregnant woman. She said: "I have committed fornication" — or "transgressed" — "so stone me." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said to her: "Conceal yourself with God's concealment, Mighty and Majestic." So she went back. Then she came a second time, while the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, was on his mule, and said: "Stone me, O Prophet of God." He said: "Conceal yourself with God's concealment, Blessed and Exalted." So she went back. Then she came a third time while he was standing, until she seized the bridle of his mule and said: "I ask you by God, will you not stone me?" He said: "Go away until you give birth." So she went away and gave birth to a boy. Then she came and spoke to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said to her: "Go and purify yourself from the blood." So she went away. Then she came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: "I have purified myself." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, sent some women and instructed them to examine the woman. They came and testified before the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, to her purity. So he ordered that a pit be dug for her up to her chest. Then the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, came, along with the Muslims, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, took a stone the size of a chickpea and cast it at her; then the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, turned aside and said to the Muslims: "Stone her, and beware of her face." When she had died, he ordered that she be taken out, and he prayed over her, then said: "If her reward were divided among the people of the Hijaz, it would suffice them all." 'Attab b. Ziyad narrated to us: 'Abdullah — meaning Ibn al-Mubarak — informed us: Zakariyya Abu 'Imran al-Basri informed us, saying: I heard a shaykh narrating to 'Amr b. 'Uthman al-Qurashi, that 'Abd al-Rahman b. Abi Bakra narrated to us, and he related the hadith, except that he said: "So the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, took charge of him," and said: "If her reward were divided among the people of the Hijaz, it would suffice them."
