حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّي حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ رُسْتُمَ أَبُو عَامِرٍ الْخَزَّازُ حَدَّثَنِي كَثِيرُ بْنُ شِنْظِيرٍ عَنِ الْحَسَنِ عَنْ عِمْرَانَ بْنِ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ مَا قَامَ فِينَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَطِيبًا إِلَّا أَمَرَنَا بِالصَّدَقَةِ وَنَهَانَا عَنْ الْمُثْلَةِ قَالَ وَقَالَ أَلَا وَإِنَّ مِنْ الْمُثْلَةِ أَنْ يَنْذُرَ الرَّجُلُ أَنْ يَخْرِمَ أَنْفَهُ أَلَا وَإِنَّ مِنْ الْمُثْلَةِ أَنْ يَنْذُرَ الرَّجُلُ أَنْ يَحُجَّ مَاشِيًا فَلْيُهْدِ هَدْيًا وَلْيَرْكَبْ.
English Translation
Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Salih ibn Rustum Abu Amir al-Khazzaz narrated to us, Kathir ibn Shinzir narrated to me, from al-Hasan, from Imran ibn Husayn, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) never stood among us as a preacher except that he commanded us to give charity and forbade us from mutilation. He also said: 'Indeed, it is a form of mutilation for a man to vow to slit his own nose. And indeed, it is a form of mutilation for a man to vow to perform Hajj on foot — let him offer a sacrificial animal and ride.'
