English Translation
Yahya b. Sa'id told us, from Uthman b. Ghiyath: Abu Uthman told us, from Abu Musa, that he was with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in a garden, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, had a stick in his hand, striking it between the water and the mud. Then a man came seeking to enter, and he said, "Open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise." It turned out to be Abu Bakr, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him. He said: So I opened for him and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then a man came seeking to enter, and he said, "Open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise." It turned out to be Umar, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him. So I opened for him and gave him glad tidings of Paradise. Then a man came and sought to enter, and he said, "Open for him and give him glad tidings of Paradise, along with a trial that will befall him," or "a trial that will occur." It turned out to be Uthman, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him. So I opened for him and gave him glad tidings of Paradise and informed him, and he said, "Allah is the One sought for help." Muhammad b. Ja'far told us: Uthman - that is Ibn Ghiyath - told us, from Abu Uthman, from Abu Musa al-Ash'ari, who said: I was with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in one of the gardens of Madina - and he mentioned the meaning of Yahya's hadith, except that he said, regarding Uthman's saying, may Allah Almighty be pleased with him: "Allah is the One sought for help; O Allah, grant patience; and upon Allah is reliance."
