English Translation
It was narrated to us by Abd al-Razzaq, who said: it was narrated to us by Ma'mar, from Asim ibn Abi al-Najud, from Zirr ibn Hubaysh, who said: I came to Safwan ibn Assal al-Muradi, and he said, "What brought you here?" I said, "I have come seeking knowledge." He said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: 'There is no one who leaves his house seeking knowledge but that the angels lower their wings for him, pleased with what he does.'" I said, "I have come to ask you about wiping over the leather socks." He said, "Yes, I was among an army that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent out, and he commanded us to wipe over our leather socks when we had put them on in a state of purity — for three days if we were traveling, and a day and a night if we were resident — and not to remove them except in the case of major ritual impurity."
