English Translation
It was narrated to us by Muhammad ibn Ja'far, it was narrated to us by Shu'bah, from Amr ibn Murrah, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Shurahbil ibn al-Simt, who said: A man said to Ka'b ibn Murrah, or Murrah ibn Ka'b, "Tell us a hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) - may your father be devoted to Allah - and be careful (to speak truthfully)." He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whichever man frees a Muslim man, it will be his ransom from the Fire, bone repaid for bone of his own bones; and whichever Muslim man frees two Muslim women, they will be his ransom from the Fire, two of their bones repaid for each bone of his; and whichever Muslim woman frees a Muslim woman, it will be her ransom from the Fire, bone repaid for bone of her own bones." He said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had invoked a curse upon Mudar. He said: So I came to him and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has granted you victory, given you, and answered your prayer, and your people have perished, so pray to Allah for them." But he turned away from him. He said: Then I said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has granted you victory, given you, and answered your prayer, and your people have perished, so pray to Allah for them." He said: "O Allah, give us rain, a rescuing, fertilizing, abundant, plentiful rain, not delayed, beneficial and not harmful." And it was no more than a week or so before they were given rain. Shu'bah said: In the supplication there was a phrase I heard from Habib ibn Abi Thabit, from Salim, concerning the prayer for rain; and in the hadith of Habib, or Amr, from Salim, he said: "I have come to you from a people among whom no stallion camel grows restive, and for whose flocks no shepherd need be provided."
