حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُجَالِدٌ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ عَنْ الْمُسْتَوْرِدِ بْنِ شَدَّادٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا الدُّنْيَا فِي الْآخِرَةِ إِلَّا كَرَجُلٍ وَضَعَ إِصْبَعَهُ فِي الْيَمِّ ثُمَّ رَجَعَهَا قَالَ وَإِنِّي لَفِي الرَّكْبِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَمَرَّ عَلَى سَخْلَةٍ مَنْبُوذَةٍ عَلَى كُنَاسٍ فَقَالَ أَتَرَوْنَ هَذِهِ هَانَتْ عَلَى أَهْلِهَا فَقَالُوا مِنْ هَوَانِهَا أَلْقَوْهَا هَاهُنَا قَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَلدُّنْيَا عَلَى اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَهْوَنُ مِنْ هَذِهِ عَلَى أَهْلِهَا.
English Translation
Yunus ibn Muhammad told us, Hammad ibn Zayd told us, Mujalid told us, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim, from al-Mustawrid ibn Shaddad, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, this world compared to the Hereafter is only like a man who put his finger into the sea, then withdrew it." He said: And I was in the company of riders with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when he passed by a discarded lamb on a rubbish heap. He said, "Do you see this — how worthless it was to its owners?" They said, "It is because of its worthlessness that they threw it here." He said, "By the One in whose hand is my soul, this world is more worthless before Allah, Mighty and Sublime, than this is to its owners."
