حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا وُهَيْبٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ أَبِي عَاصِمٍ عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ أَبِي الْعَاصِ أَنَّ آخِرَ مَا فَارَقَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّيْتَ بِقَوْمٍ فَخَفِّفْ بِهِمْ حَتَّى وَقَّتَ لِي اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ.
English Translation
Affan narrated to us, saying: Wuhayb narrated to us, saying: Abdullah ibn Uthman narrated to us, from Dawud ibn Abi 'Asim, from Uthman ibn Abi al-'As, that the last thing the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, parted from him with was that he said: 'When you lead people in prayer, be brief with them,' until he specified for me: 'Recite "By the Name of your Lord who created."'
