English Translation
Abu Bakr al-Hanafi narrated to us: Abd al-Hamid b. Ja'far narrated to us, from his father, from a man of Muzayna, that his mother said to him: "Will you not go and ask the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), as the people ask him?" So I went to ask him, and found him standing, delivering a sermon, saying: "Whoever seeks to abstain, Allah will grant him abstinence; and whoever seeks self-sufficiency, Allah will make him self-sufficient; and whoever asks people while he has the equivalent of five awqiya, has asked insistently." I said to myself: "He has a she-camel worth more than five awqiya, and his young servant has another she-camel worth more than five awqiya" - so I went back and did not ask him.
