حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْمَرٌ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ مُبَشِّرٍ لِكَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ وَهُوَ شَاكٍ اقْرَأْ عَلَى ابْنِي السَّلَامَ تَعْنِي مُبَشِّرًا فَقَالَ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لَكِ يَا أُمَّ مُبَشِّرٍ أَوَلَمْ تَسْمَعِي مَا قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّمَا نَسَمَةُ الْمُسْلِمِ طَيْرٌ تَعْلُقُ فِي شَجَرِ الْجَنَّةِ حَتَّى يُرْجِعَهَا اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ إِلَى جَسَدِهِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ قَالَتْ صَدَقْتَ فَأَسْتَغْفِرُ اللَّهَ.
English Translation
Abd al-Razzaq told us, saying: Ma'mar told us, from al-Zuhri, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Ka'b ibn Malik, who said: Umm Mubashshir said to Ka'b ibn Malik, while he was ill: "Convey my greeting of peace to my son" - meaning Mubashshir. He said: "May Allah forgive you, O Umm Mubashshir! Did you not hear what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'The soul of the Muslim is only a bird that feeds among the trees of Paradise, until Allah, Mighty and Glorious, returns it to its body on the Day of Resurrection'?" She said: "You have spoken the truth, so I seek Allah's forgiveness."
