English Translation
Affan told us, Shu'bah told us, Muhammad ibn Abd al-Rahman told us, from Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Hasan ibn Ali, from Jabir ibn Abdullah — Affan told us, Wuhayb told us, Abdullah ibn Uthman ibn Khuthaym told us, from Abd al-Rahman ibn Sabit, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: He told us that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O Ka'b ibn Ujrah, I seek refuge for you with Allah from the rule of fools." He said, "What is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "There will be rulers after me; whoever comes to them and affirms their lies and helps them in their wrongdoing is not of me and I am not of him, and he will not come to me at the Basin. And whoever does not come to them, and does not affirm their lies, and does not help them in their wrongdoing, is of me and I am of him, and he will come to me at the Basin. O Ka'b ibn Ujrah, prayer is a means of drawing near, fasting is a shield, and charity extinguishes sin as water extinguishes fire. O Ka'b ibn Ujrah, flesh that has grown from unlawful earnings will not enter Paradise; the Fire is more fitting for it. O Ka'b ibn Ujrah, people go out in the morning as two kinds: one who sells himself and destroys his own neck, and one who buys himself back and frees his own neck."
