English Translation
Husayn told us, in the exegesis of Shayban, from Qatadah, who said: Anas ibn Malik also told us that a man called out to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, on a Friday while he was delivering the sermon to the people in Madinah, and said: "O Messenger of God, the rain has withheld and the land has become barren, and the people are in drought, so ask your Lord to send us rain." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, looked up at the sky, and we did not see much cloud, so he prayed for rain, and clouds began to gather together, then it rained until the water channels of Madinah flowed and its roads became rivers, and it continued like that until the following Friday without stopping. Then that man, or someone else, stood up while the Prophet of God, peace and blessings be upon him, was delivering the sermon, and said: "O Prophet of God, ask God to hold it back from us." The Prophet of God, peace and blessings be upon him, laughed, then said: "O God, around us and not upon us," and he prayed to his Lord, and the clouds began to split apart from Madinah to the right and left, raining upon what was around it but not raining upon it at all.
