English Translation
Bahz ibn Asad Abu al-Aswad al-Ammi narrated to us: Hammad ibn Salamah narrated to us: Ishaq ibn Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah informed us, from Anas ibn Malik, that Hawazin came on the day of Hunayn with their children, women, camels, and livestock, and arranged them in ranks to increase their numbers against the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. When they met, the Muslims turned in flight, as Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has said. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "O servants of Allah, I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger! O company of the Ansar, I am the servant of Allah and His Messenger!" So Allah defeated the polytheists. Affan said: and they had not yet struck with a sword nor thrust with a spear. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said that day: "Whoever kills a disbeliever, his spoils are his." So Abu Talhah killed twenty men that day and took their spoils. And Abu Qatadah said: "O Messenger of Allah, I struck a man on the base of his neck while he wore armor, and it was knocked off him — look who has taken it." A man stood and said: "I took it." He said: "Satisfy him for it and give it to me." And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was never asked for anything but that he gave it or remained silent, so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, remained silent. Umar said: "No, by Allah, Allah will not grant it as spoils to one of His lions and then give it to you!" So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, laughed and said: "Umar has spoken truly." He said: And Umm Sulaym had a dagger with her, so Abu Talhah said: "What is this with you?" She said: "I took it so that if any of the polytheists came near me, I would rip open his belly with it." So Abu Talhah said: "O Messenger of Allah, do you not hear what Umm Sulaym is saying?" She said: "O Messenger of Allah, kill whoever comes to us after this, of the freed men who fled from you." He said: "Allah has sufficed us and done well, O Umm Sulaym." Affan narrated to us: Sulaym ibn Akhdar narrated to us: Ibn Awn narrated to us: Hisham ibn Zayd ibn Anas narrated to me, from Anas: When it was the day of Hunayn, and Hawazin and Ghatafan gathered a great host against the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was with ten thousand or more, and with him were the freed men, and they came with the livestock and the offspring — and he related the rest of the account.
