حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنٌ حَدَّثَنَا خَلَفٌ عَنْ حَفْصِ بْنِ عُمَرَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ كُنْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ جَالِسًا فِي الْحَلْقَةِ إِذْ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ الرَّجُلُ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ فَرَدَّ النَّبِيُّ عَلَيْهِ الصَّلَاة وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَيْكُمْ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللَّهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ فَلَمَّا جَلَسَ الرَّجُلُ قَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ حَمْدًا كَثِيرًا طَيِّبًا مُبَارَكًا فِيهِ كَمَا يُحِبُّ رَبُّنَا أَنْ يُحْمَدَ وَيَنْبَغِي لَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَيْفَ قُلْتَ فَرَدَّ عَلَيْهِ كَمَا قَالَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ لَقَدْ ابْتَدَرَهَا عَشَرَةُ أَمْلَاكٍ كُلُّهُمْ حَرِيصٌ عَلَى أَنْ يَكْتُبَهَا فَمَا دَرَوْا كَيْفَ يَكْتُبُوهَا حَتَّى يَرْفَعُوهَا إِلَى ذِي الْعِزَّةِ فَقَالَ اكْتُبُوهَا كَمَا قَالَ عَبْدِي.
English Translation
Husayn told us, Khalaf told us, from Hafs ibn Umar, from Anas, who said: I was sitting with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, in the gathering when a man came and greeted the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the people. The man said, "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, returned the greeting: "And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings." When the man sat down, he said, "Praise be to Allah, abundant, good, and blessed praise, as our Lord loves to be praised and as befits Him." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him, "How did you say it?" So he repeated it as he had said it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "By Him in whose hand is my soul, ten angels raced to it, each eager to record it, but they did not know how to record it, until they raised it up to the Lord of Might, who said, 'Write it as My servant said it.'"
