English Translation

Yunus ibn Muhammad narrated to us: Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Hisham, from Muhammad, from Anas—Hammad said, and al-Ja'd had also mentioned it—who said: Umm Sulaym took half a mudd of barley and ground it, then took a skin container that had some ghee in it, and made from it a thin porridge. He said: Then she sent me to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: So I came to him while he was among his companions, and I said: "Umm Sulaym has sent me to you, inviting you." He said: "Me and whoever is with me?" He said: So he came, he and those with him. He said: So I went in and said to Abu Talha: "The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, has come, and those with him." So Abu Talha went out and walked alongside the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him. He said: He said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is only a thin porridge that Umm Sulaym made from half a mudd of barley." He said: So he entered and it was brought to him. He said: He put his hand into it, then said: "Let ten in." He said: So ten entered and ate until they were full; then ten [more] entered and ate; then ten [more] and ate; then ten [more] and ate, until forty had eaten from it, all of them eating until full. He said: And it remained as it was. He said: So we ate.
