English Translation
Ibn Abi Adiyy narrated to us from Humayd, from Anas, who said: A son of Abu Talha fell ill, and Abu Talha went out to the mosque, and the boy died. Umm Sulaym prepared the deceased and said to her household, "Let none of you inform Abu Talha of the death of his son." He returned to his family, accompanied by some people from the mosque, from among his companions. He said, "How is the boy?" She said, "Better than he was." She brought them their supper, and they had supper and the people left. The woman then prepared herself as a woman does for her husband. When it was the latter part of the night, she said, "O Abu Talha, have you not seen how the family of so-and-so borrowed something and enjoyed its use, but when it was asked back from them, they seemed to dislike that?" He said, "They were not being fair." She said, "Then your son was a loan from Allah, Blessed and Exalted, and Allah has taken him back." So he said the words of returning to Allah, and praised Allah. When morning came he went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and when he saw him, he said, "May Allah bless your night for both of you." She conceived Abd Allah and gave birth to him at night, and she disliked to have him given the tahnik until the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, did it for him. So I carried him in the morning, with some Ajwa dates with me, and found him tarring or branding some camels of his. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, Umm Sulaym gave birth last night, and she disliked to have him given tahnik until you did it." He said, "Do you have anything with you?" I said, "Some Ajwa dates." He took some of them, chewed them, then gathered his saliva and put it into the baby's mouth. The baby began to smack his lips, so he said, "The love of the Ansar is for dates." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, name him." He said, "He is Abd Allah." Bundar narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abi Adiyy narrated part of this hadith to us, saying: I came to him while he had a cloak on him. Bundar narrated to us, Ibn Abi Adiyy narrated to us from Ibn Awn, from Muhammad, from Anas: I came to him while he had a striped cloak on him, and he was in the orchard, branding the herd that had come to him. He said, "Wait a little, I will attend to you." Ibn Abi Adiyy said, at the beginning of the hadith: Abu Talha went to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, "Did you both spend the night as newlyweds?" He said, "May Allah bless you both in your marriage." Abu Talha said to Umm Sulaym, "How is that boy?" She said, "He is calmer than he was." Musa ibn Hilal narrated to us, Hisham narrated to us from Ibn Sirin, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: Abu Talha married Umm Sulaym, who was the mother of Anas and al-Bara'; she bore him a son whom he loved. He mentioned the hadith, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Did you both spend the night as newlyweds, with him beside you?" He said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "May Allah bless you both in your night."
