حَدَّثَنَا يَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ صَالِحٍ قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو أُمَامَةَ بْنُ سَهْلٍ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَيْنَا أَنَا نَائِمٌ رَأَيْتُ النَّاسَ يُعْرَضُونَ وَعَلَيْهِمْ قُمُصٌ مِنْهَا مَا يَبْلُغُ الثَّدْيَ وَمِنْهَا مَا يَبْلُغُ دُونَ ذَلِكَ وَمَرَّ عَلَيَّ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ وَعَلَيْهِ قَمِيصٌ يَجُرُّهُ قَالُوا فَمَا أَوَّلْتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ الدِّينُ قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ مَا أُحْصِي مَا سَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحٌ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ.
English Translation
Ya'qub told us, his father told us, from Salih, who said: Ibn Shihab said: Abu Umama ibn Sahl told me that he heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "While I was sleeping, I saw the people being displayed, wearing shirts, some reaching the chest and some reaching less than that. And Umar ibn al-Khattab passed by me wearing a shirt that he was dragging." They said: "What did you interpret it as, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "The religion." Ya'qub said: "I cannot count how many times I heard him say: 'Salih told us, from Ibn Shihab.'"
