حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ صَلَّى بِنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِحْدَى صَلاَتَىِ الْعَشِيِّ - الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ قَالَ - فَصَلَّى بِنَا رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ قَامَ إِلَى خَشَبَةٍ فِي مُقَدَّمِ الْمَسْجِدِ فَوَضَعَ يَدَيْهِ عَلَيْهَا إِحْدَاهُمَا عَلَى الأُخْرَى يُعْرَفُ فِي وَجْهِهِ الْغَضَبُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ سَرَعَانُ النَّاسِ وَهُمْ يَقُولُونَ قَصُرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ قَصُرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ وَفِي النَّاسِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ فَهَابَاهُ أَنْ يُكَلِّمَاهُ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يُسَمِّيهِ ذَا الْيَدَيْنِ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَنَسِيتَ أَمْ قَصُرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ قَالَ " لَمْ أَنْسَ وَلَمْ تَقْصُرِ الصَّلاَةُ " . قَالَ بَلْ نَسِيتَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ . فَأَقْبَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم عَلَى الْقَوْمِ فَقَالَ " أَصَدَقَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ " . فَأَوْمَئُوا أَىْ نَعَمْ فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِلَى مَقَامِهِ فَصَلَّى الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ الْبَاقِيَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ وَكَبَّرَ ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ مِثْلَ سُجُودِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ ثُمَّ رَفَعَ وَكَبَّرَ . قَالَ فَقِيلَ لِمُحَمَّدٍ سَلَّمَ فِي السَّهْوِ فَقَالَ لَمْ أَحْفَظْهُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ وَلَكِنْ نُبِّئْتُ أَنَّ عِمْرَانَ بْنَ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ .
English Translation
Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates: 'The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) led us in one of the afternoon prayers — Zuhr or Asr. He prayed two rak'ahs, then gave salam. Then he went to a wooden post at the front of the mosque, placed his hands on it — one on top of the other — and anger was visible on his blessed face. Then the hasty people went out saying: "The prayer has been shortened! The prayer has been shortened!" Among the people were Hadrat Abu Bakr (al-Siddiq) and 'Umar (al-Faruq) (may Allah be well pleased with them), but they were too awed to speak to him. A man stood up whom the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to call Dhul-Yadayn (the one with two hands). He submitted: "O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), have you forgotten or has the prayer been shortened?" He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said: "I have not forgotten, and the prayer has not been shortened." He said: "Rather, you have forgotten, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)." The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) turned to the people and said: "Is Dhul-Yadayn speaking the truth?" They gestured yes. So the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) returned to his place and prayed the remaining two rak'ahs. Then he gave salam. Then he said takbir and prostrated like his (normal) prostration or longer. Then he raised his head and said takbir. Then he said takbir and prostrated like his prostration or longer. Then he raised his head and said takbir.' He said: Muhammad (ibn Sirin) was asked: 'Did he give salam in the sajdah al-sahw (prostration of forgetfulness)?' He said: 'I did not memorize that from Hadrat Abu Hurayrah, but I was told that 'Imran ibn Husayn said: Then he gave salam.'
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ہمیں دوپہر کی ایک نماز — ظہر یا عصر — پڑھائی، دو رکعتیں پڑھا کر سلام پھیر دیا — پھر مسجد کے اگلے حصے میں ایک لکڑی کے پاس تشریف لے گئے اور اس پر اپنے دونوں ہاتھ رکھے — ایک دوسرے پر — آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے چہرۂ مبارک پر ناراضگی نظر آ رہی تھی۔ پھر جلدباز لوگ نکلے اور کہنے لگے: نماز قصر ہو گئی! نماز قصر ہو گئی! لوگوں میں حضرت ابوبکر (صدیق) اور حضرت عمر (فاروق رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما) تھے — وہ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے بات کرنے سے ڈرے۔ ایک شخص کھڑا ہوا جسے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ذوالیدین کہتے تھے — عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم بھول گئے یا نماز قصر ہو گئی؟ ارشاد فرمایا: نہ میں بھولا ہوں نہ نماز قصر ہوئی۔ عرض کیا: بلکہ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم بھول گئے ہیں، یا رسول اللہ! رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم لوگوں کی طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور ارشاد فرمایا: کیا ذوالیدین سچ کہہ رہا ہے؟ لوگوں نے اشارے سے ہاں کیا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم اپنی جگہ واپس آئے اور باقی دو رکعتیں پڑھیں — پھر سلام پھیرا — پھر تکبیر کہی اور اپنے (عام) سجدے جیسا یا اس سے لمبا سجدہ فرمایا — پھر سر اٹھایا اور تکبیر کہی — پھر تکبیر کہی اور اسی طرح یا اس سے لمبا سجدہ فرمایا — پھر سر اٹھایا اور تکبیر کہی۔ فرمایا: محمد (بن سیرین) سے پوچھا گیا: کیا سہو (کے سجدوں) میں سلام پھیرا؟ فرمایا: میں نے حضرت ابوہریرہ سے یہ یاد نہیں رکھا، لیکن مجھے بتایا گیا ہے کہ عمران بن حصین نے کہا: پھر سلام پھیرا۔
