Dhu Makhbar, the nephew of the Negus, heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: "You will make a peace treaty with the Romans for ten years — a secure peace. They will fulfill it for two years and betray it in the third — or they will fulfill four and betray in the fifth. Then an army of yours will be stationed in their city, and you will fight together against an enemy behind you and behind them. You will fight that enemy, and Allah will grant you victory. You will return with the reward and spoils you have earned and camp in a meadow with hills. One among you will say: 'Allah has prevailed,' and one among them will say: 'The cross has prevailed.' They will argue back and forth. A Muslim will become angry — their cross not far from them — and will rush to their cross and smash it. They will come forward to the one who smashed their cross and strike his neck. That band of Muslims will rush to their weapons, and the Romans will rush to their weapons and kill that band of Muslims — they will be martyred. Then they will go to their king and say: 'We have dealt with the might and ferocity of the Arabs for you — so what are we waiting for?' He will gather (an army) within the period of a woman's pregnancy, then they will come to you under eighty banners, under each banner twelve thousand (soldiers)."
