Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat 'A'ishah (may Allah be well pleased with her) narrated: I never knew my parents except that they practiced the religion. Not a day would pass but the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) would visit us at both ends of the day — morning and evening. When the Muslims were persecuted, Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him) set out as an emigrant toward Abyssinia. He met Ibn al-Dughinnah, the chief of al-Qarah, who said: "Where are you going, O Abu Bakr?" He said: "My people have expelled me. I shall travel the earth and worship my Lord." Ibn al-Dughinnah said: "One like you, O Abu Bakr, does not leave nor is expelled. You earn for the destitute, maintain family ties, host the guest, bear the burden of others, and help in the trials of truth. I am your protector." So Ibn al-Dughinnah traveled back and Abu Bakr returned with him. He went around to the disbelievers of Quraysh and told them that Abu Bakr was not one to leave or be expelled, mentioning his virtues. Quraysh accepted Ibn al-Dughinnah's protection and gave Abu Bakr safety, but said to Ibn al-Dughinnah: "Tell Abu Bakr to worship his Lord in his house and pray and recite as he wishes, but not to disturb us or pray and recite publicly outside his house." Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him) did that. Then Abu Bakr built a mosque in the courtyard of his house where he would pray and recite the Quran. The women and children of the polytheists would stop and watch him in amazement. Abu Bakr (may Allah be well pleased with him) was a man who wept much and could not control his tears when reciting the Quran. They sent for Ibn al-Dughinnah and said: "We only granted Abu Bakr protection to worship his Lord in his house, but he has built a mosque and made his prayer and recitation public. We fear he will tempt our women and children. Go to him." Ibn al-Dughinnah came to Abu Bakr and said: "You know the terms upon which I gave you protection. Either confine yourself to that or return my protection, for I do not wish the Arabs to hear that my covenant to a man was violated."

اُمّ المؤمنین حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت ہے: مجھے اپنے والدین کی یاد نہیں مگر یہ کہ وہ دین پر عمل کرتے تھے۔ کوئی دن ایسا نہ گزرتا مگر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم دن کے دونوں حصوں — صبح و شام — ہمارے پاس تشریف لاتے۔ جب مسلمانوں کو آزمایا گیا تو ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ حبشہ کی طرف ہجرت کے لیے نکلے۔ راستے میں ابن الدغنہ — القارہ قبیلے کے سردار — سے ملاقات ہوئی۔ انہوں نے کہا: "کہاں جا رہے ہو اے ابوبکر؟" فرمایا: "میری قوم نے مجھے نکال دیا ہے، زمین میں سیر کروں گا اور اپنے رب کی عبادت کروں گا۔" ابن الدغنہ نے کہا: "اے ابوبکر! آپ جیسا نہ نکلتا ہے نہ نکالا جاتا۔ آپ محتاجوں کو کمائی دیتے ہیں، صلہ رحمی کرتے ہیں، مہمان نوازی کرتے ہیں، بوجھ اٹھاتے ہیں اور حق کی مصیبتوں میں مدد کرتے ہیں۔ میں آپ کا محافظ ہوں۔" پس ابن الدغنہ لوٹے اور ابوبکر ان کے ساتھ واپس آئے۔ انہوں نے قریش کے کفار کے درمیان جا کر کہا کہ ابوبکر جیسا نہ نکلتا ہے نہ نکالا جاتا — ان کی خوبیاں بیان کیں۔ قریش نے ابن الدغنہ کی پناہ قبول کی اور ابوبکر کو امان دی لیکن ابن الدغنہ سے کہا: "ابوبکر سے کہو کہ اپنے گھر میں اپنے رب کی عبادت کریں، جو چاہیں نماز پڑھیں اور جو چاہیں پڑھیں، لیکن ہمیں تکلیف نہ دیں اور گھر کے باہر نماز و تلاوت کا اعلان نہ کریں۔" ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے ایسا ہی کیا۔ پھر ابوبکر نے اپنے گھر کے صحن میں مسجد بنائی اور اس میں نماز پڑھتے اور قرآن پڑھتے۔ مشرکین کی عورتیں اور بچے آ کر کھڑے ہو جاتے اور حیرت سے دیکھتے۔ ابوبکر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بہت رونے والے تھے — جب قرآن پڑھتے تو آنسو روک نہیں سکتے تھے۔ انہوں نے ابن الدغنہ کو بلوایا اور کہا: ہم نے ابوبکر کو صرف اس لیے امان دی تھی کہ وہ اپنے گھر میں عبادت کریں، لیکن انہوں نے مسجد بنائی اور نماز و تلاوت کا اعلان کر دیا ہے اور ہمیں خوف ہے کہ ہماری عورتوں اور بچوں کو فتنے میں ڈال دیں گے۔ ان کے پاس جاؤ۔ ابن الدغنہ ابوبکر کے پاس آئے اور کہا: تم جانتے ہو میں نے تم سے کیا عہد کیا تھا — یا تو اسی پر رہو یا میری ذمہ داری واپس کرو کیونکہ میں نہیں چاہتا کہ عرب سنیں کہ جس شخص کا میں نے عہد کیا اس میں میری خلاف ورزی ہوئی۔
