Hadrat 'Abbad ibn Nasib Abu al-Wadi' (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: We were marching toward Kufa with the Commander of the Faithful, Hadrat Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah ennoble his countenance). When we were two or three nights away from Harura', some people broke away from us. We mentioned this to Hadrat Ali, and he said: "Let not their affair alarm you, for they shall return." When the next day came, twice as many broke away. We mentioned it to Ali, and he said: "Let not their affair alarm you; their matter is insignificant." Ali said: "Do not initiate fighting with them until they are the ones who attack you first." They knelt on their knees, and we shielded ourselves with our shields. They began showering us with arrows and spears. Then they drew close and thrust their lances at us, then attacked us with swords. A man from 'Abd al-Qays named Sa'sa'ah ibn Sawhan went out and called three times. They asked: "What do you want?" He said: "I adjure you by Allah not to go forth in a land that shall become a reproach upon the people of the earth, and I adjure you by Allah not to pass through the religion as an arrow passes through its prey." When we saw them putting their swords upon us, Ali said: "Rise, with the blessing of Allah (Exalted is He)!" It was but a brief time of day before we laid down those we laid down and those who fled, fled. Ali praised Allah and said: "My beloved friend (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) told me that their leader is a man with a deformed hand, upon whose nipple are hairs like a jerboa's tail. Search for him." They searched but did not find him. We came to him and said we had not found him. He said: "Search for him! By Allah, I have not lied nor been told a lie." We kept searching until Ali himself came to the last of their battlefield. He kept saying: "Turn this one over, turn that one over," until a man from Kufa came and said: "Here he is!" Ali said: "Allah is Greatest! By Allah, no one shall come to you who can tell you who his father is." The people began saying: "This one is so-and-so." Ali asked: "Son of whom?" They said: "We do not know." Then Ali said: "My beloved friend (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) told me that they are three brothers from the jinn — this one is the eldest, the second has a great following, and the third has some weakness." Muslim has recorded the hadith of the deformed one in abbreviated form in the authentic collection, but they did not record it with this narrative. Its chain of transmission is authentic.

حضرت عبّاد بن نسیب ابو الوضیء رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے: ہم امیر المومنین حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم کے ساتھ کوفہ کی طرف سفر میں تھے۔ جب حروراء سے دو یا تین رات کی مسافت پر تھے تو کچھ لوگ ہم سے الگ ہو گئے۔ ہم نے حضرت علی کو بتایا تو فرمایا: «ان کے معاملے سے گھبراؤ مت، وہ واپس آ جائیں گے۔» اگلے دن دُگنے لوگ الگ ہوئے۔ ہم نے حضرت علی کو بتایا تو فرمایا: «ان سے گھبراؤ مت، ان کا معاملہ معمولی ہے۔» حضرت علی نے فرمایا: «ان سے پہلے لڑائی شروع نہ کرو جب تک وہ خود شروع نہ کریں۔» وہ گھٹنوں کے بل بیٹھے اور ہم نے ڈھالوں سے بچاؤ کیا۔ انہوں نے تیر اور نیزے برسانے شروع کیے، پھر قریب آ کر بھالے لگائے، پھر تلواروں سے حملہ کیا۔ عبد القیس کے ایک شخص صعصعہ بن صوحان نکلے اور تین بار پکارا۔ انہوں نے کہا: «کیا چاہتے ہو؟» فرمایا: «تمہیں اللہ کی قسم! ایسی سرزمین پر نہ نکلو جو اہل زمین پر عار ہو اور تمہیں اللہ کی قسم! دین سے ایسے نہ نکلو جیسے تیر شکار سے نکل جاتا ہے۔» جب ہم نے دیکھا کہ انہوں نے ہم پر تلواریں چلائیں تو حضرت علی نے فرمایا: «اللہ تعالیٰ کی برکت سے اٹھو!» دن کا تھوڑا سا وقت تھا کہ ہم نے جنہیں گرانا تھا گرا دیا اور جو بھاگے وہ بھاگ گئے۔ حضرت علی نے اللہ کی حمد کی اور فرمایا: «میرے خلیل صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مجھے بتایا تھا کہ ان کا سردار ایک مخدج الید (ٹنڈا) آدمی ہے جس کے سینے کے نپل پر چند بال ہیں جیسے جربیل کی دم — اسے تلاش کرو۔» تلاش کیا مگر نہ ملا۔ ہم آپ کے پاس آئے اور بتایا۔ فرمایا: «تلاش کرو! بخدا نہ میں نے جھوٹ بولا نہ مجھ سے جھوٹ بولا گیا۔» ہم تلاش کرتے رہے یہاں تک کہ حضرت علی خود معرکے کے آخر تک آئے اور فرماتے رہے: «اسے الٹو، اسے الٹو» — یہاں تک کہ کوفہ کے ایک شخص نے کہا: «یہ رہا!» حضرت علی نے فرمایا: «اللہ اکبر! بخدا تمہارے پاس کوئی ایسا نہیں آئے گا جو بتائے کہ اس کا باپ کون ہے۔» لوگ کہتے: «یہ فلاں ہے۔» حضرت علی فرماتے: «کس کا بیٹا؟» کہتے: «ہمیں نہیں معلوم۔» پھر حضرت علی نے فرمایا: «میرے خلیل صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے مجھے بتایا تھا کہ یہ جنات کے تین بھائی ہیں — یہ سب سے بڑا ہے، دوسرے کی بہت بڑی جماعت ہے اور تیسرے میں کمزوری ہے۔» مسلم نے مخدج کی حدیث مختصراً صحیح مسند میں روایت کی ہے مگر اس تفصیل سے روایت نہیں کی۔ یہ صحیح الاسناد ہے۔
