Al-Rubayyi' bint Mu'awwidh (may Allah be pleased with her) narrated: "The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent a message on the morning of Ashura to the villages of the Ansar: 'Whoever has begun the day without fasting should refrain from eating and drinking for the rest of the day, and whoever has begun the day fasting should continue his fast.' She said: 'After that, we used to fast on Ashura regularly and make our children fast too. We would make toys of wool for them, and whenever a child cried for food, we would give him the toy to play with until the time of iftar.'"
الترجمة الأردية
ربیع بنت معوذ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہنبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے عاشورہ کی صبح کو انصار کی بستیوں میں یہ کہلا بھیجا:”جس نے بغیر روزہ کے صبح کی ہو وہ اپنے باقی دن میں کچھ کھائے نہ کچھ پیے۔ اور جس شخص نے روزہ کی حالت میں صبح کی ہو وہ روزہ رکھے۔“ربیع رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ اس کے بعد ہم برابر عاشورہ کا روزہ رکھتے اور اپنے بچوں کو بھی رکھواتے اور ان کے لیے روئی کے کھلونے بنا لیا کرتے تھے کہ جب کوئی ان میں سے کھانے کے لیے روتا تو ہم وہی کھلونا اس کو دے دیتے یہاں تک کہ افطار کا وقت آتا۔[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 954]
