Narrated Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him): He related two accounts — one he narrated from the Prophet (peace be upon him), and the other was his own saying. He said: The believer regards his sins as if he were sitting beneath a mountain, fearing that it may fall upon him, whereas the wicked one regards his sin as a fly that passes over his nose. (The narrator Abu Shihab illustrated this with a gesture of his hand.) Then he said: Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His servant than a person who reaches a place where he fears for his life (with no food or the like), and lies down to sleep. When he gets up and looks, the mount that carried his food and drink has disappeared. Then hunger and thirst overcome him — or whatever Allah wills (the narrator is uncertain) — and he supplicates (to Allah) that he might reach his home. Then he goes back (to the place where he lay) and sleeps, and when he gets up, he suddenly sees his mount (with his provisions) right beside him.

سیدنا عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہما نے دو حدیثیں بیان کیں، ایک تو نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے روایت کی اور دوسرا ان کا اپنا قول ہے، کہا کہمومن اپنے گناہوں کو ایسا خیال کرتا ہے جیسے پہاڑ کے نیچے بیٹھا ہوا شخص یہ خوف کرتا ہے کہ کہیں پہاڑ اس پر نہ گر پڑے اور فاجر گناہ کو ایسا سمجھتا ہے کہ ناک پر سے مکھی اڑ گئی۔ راوی ابوشہاب نے ہاتھ سے اشارہ کر کے بتایا اور پھر کہا کہ اللہ اپنے بندوں کی توبہ سے اس شخص سے بھی زیادہ خوش ہوتا ہے جو کسی ایسی منزل پر پہنچے جہاں اسے جان کا خوف ہو (خوراک وغیرہ نہ ملتی ہو) اور سو جائے۔ اٹھ کر دیکھے تو جس سواری پر کھانے پینے کا سامان تھا وہ گم ہو گئی۔ پھر اس شخص پر بھوک اور پیاس غالب ہوئی یا جو اللہ چاہے (راوی کا شک ہے) اور (اللہ سے) دعا کی کہ اپنے مکان پر پہنچ جاؤں۔ پھر (اسی جگہ جہاں وہ لیٹا تھا) جا کر سو جائے اور اٹھ کر اچانک دیکھے کہ اس کی سواری (سامان سمیت) اس کے پاس ہے۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 2072]
