حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْعَلاَءِ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ، عَنْ بُرَيْدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي بُرْدَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ـ رضى الله عنه ـ قَالَ أَرْسَلَنِي أَصْحَابِي إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَسْأَلُهُ الْحُمْلاَنَ لَهُمْ، إِذْ هُمْ مَعَهُ فِي جَيْشِ الْعُسْرَةِ وَهْىَ غَزْوَةُ تَبُوكَ فَقُلْتُ يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ أَصْحَابِي أَرْسَلُونِي إِلَيْكَ لِتَحْمِلَهُمْ. فَقَالَ " وَاللَّهِ لاَ أَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَى شَىْءٍ ". وَوَافَقْتُهُ، وَهْوَ غَضْبَانُ وَلاَ أَشْعُرُ، وَرَجَعْتُ حَزِينًا مِنْ مَنْعِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَمِنْ مَخَافَةِ أَنْ يَكُونَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَجَدَ فِي نَفْسِهِ عَلَىَّ، فَرَجَعْتُ إِلَى أَصْحَابِي فَأَخْبَرْتُهُمُ الَّذِي قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فَلَمْ أَلْبَثْ إِلاَّ سُوَيْعَةً إِذْ سَمِعْتُ بِلاَلاً يُنَادِي أَىْ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ قَيْسٍ. فَأَجَبْتُهُ، فَقَالَ أَجِبْ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَدْعُوكَ، فَلَمَّا أَتَيْتُهُ، قَالَ " خُذْ هَذَيْنِ الْقَرِينَيْنِ ـ وَهَذَيْنِ الْقَرِينَيْنِ لِسِتَّةِ أَبْعِرَةٍ ابْتَاعَهُنَّ حِينَئِذٍ مِنْ سَعْدٍ ـ فَانْطَلِقْ بِهِنَّ إِلَى أَصْحَابِكَ فَقُلْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ ـ أَوْ قَالَ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ـ يَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَى هَؤُلاَءِ فَارْكَبُوهُنَّ ". فَانْطَلَقْتُ إِلَيْهِمْ بِهِنَّ، فَقُلْتُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم يَحْمِلُكُمْ عَلَى هَؤُلاَءِ وَلَكِنِّي وَاللَّهِ لاَ أَدَعُكُمْ حَتَّى يَنْطَلِقَ مَعِي بَعْضُكُمْ إِلَى مَنْ سَمِعَ مَقَالَةَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم لاَ تَظُنُّوا أَنِّي حَدَّثْتُكُمْ شَيْئًا لَمْ يَقُلْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالُوا لِي إِنَّكَ عِنْدَنَا لَمُصَدَّقٌ، وَلَنَفْعَلَنَّ مَا أَحْبَبْتَ. فَانْطَلَقَ أَبُو مُوسَى بِنَفَرٍ مِنْهُمْ حَتَّى أَتَوُا الَّذِينَ سَمِعُوا قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مَنْعَهُ إِيَّاهُمْ، ثُمَّ إِعْطَاءَهُمْ بَعْدُ، فَحَدَّثُوهُمْ بِمِثْلِ مَا حَدَّثَهُمْ بِهِ أَبُو مُوسَى.

Hadrat Abu Musa al-Ash'ari (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates that my Companions sent me to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) to ask him for some animals to ride on, as they were accompanying him in the army of al-Usra, and that was the Ghazwa (Battle) of Tabuk. I submitted, 'O the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) of Allah! My Companions have sent me to you to provide them with means of transportation.' He stated, 'By Allah! I will not make you ride anything.' It happened that when I reached him, he was in an angry mood, and I did not notice it. So I returned in a sad mood because of the refusal of the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and out of fear that the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) might have become angry with me. I returned to my Companions and informed them of what the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had said. Only a short while had passed when I heard Hadrat Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with him) calling, 'O Abdullah bin Qais!' I replied to his call. Hadrat Bilal (may Allah be well pleased with him) said, 'Respond to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) who is calling you.' When I went to the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), he stated, 'Take these two camels tied together, and also these two camels tied together' — referring to six camels he had obtained from Hadrat Sa'd (may Allah be well pleased with him) at that time. The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) added, 'Take them to your Companions and say: Allah (or the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) allows you to ride on these, so ride on them.' So I took those camels to them and said, 'The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) allows you to ride on these camels, but by Allah, I will not leave you until some of you proceed with me to somebody who heard the statement of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Do not think that I narrate to you a thing which the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has not said.' They said to me, 'We consider you truthful, and we will do what you wish.' The sub-narrator adds: So Hadrat Abu Musa (may Allah be well pleased with him) proceeded along with some of them until they came to those who had heard the statement of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) wherein he initially denied them animals to ride on and then subsequently gave them the same. So these people confirmed the same information as Hadrat Abu Musa (may Allah be well pleased with him) had told them.

حضرت ابوموسیٰ اشعری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ میرے ساتھیوں نے مجھے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمتِ اقدس میں بھیجا تاکہ آپ سے سواریاں طلب کروں کیونکہ وہ لشکرِ عسرۃ (غزوۂ تبوک) میں آپ کے ساتھ تھے۔ میں نے عرض کیا: یا نبی اللہ! میرے ساتھیوں نے مجھے آپ کے پاس بھیجا ہے کہ آپ انہیں سواریاں دیں۔ آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: اللہ کی قسم! میں تمہیں کسی چیز پر نہیں بٹھاؤں گا۔ اتفاق سے جب میں آپ کے پاس پہنچا تو آپ ناراض تھے اور مجھے اندازہ نہ ہوا۔ چنانچہ میں آپ کے انکار اور اس خوف سے غمگین ہو کر واپس لوٹا کہ کہیں آپ مجھ سے ناراض نہ ہو گئے ہوں۔ میں نے اپنے ساتھیوں کو آپ کا ارشاد سنایا۔ تھوڑی دیر ہی گزری تھی کہ میں نے حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کو آواز دیتے سنا: اے عبداللہ بن قیس! میں نے ان کی آواز کا جواب دیا۔ حضرت بلال رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تمہیں بلا رہے ہیں۔ جب میں حبیبِ کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمتِ اقدس میں حاضر ہوا تو آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: یہ دو اونٹ بندھے ہوئے لے لو اور یہ بھی دو اونٹ بندھے ہوئے لے لو — چھ اونٹوں کی طرف اشارہ فرمایا جو آپ نے حضرت سعد رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے اس وقت لیے تھے۔ آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: یہ اپنے ساتھیوں کو لے جاؤ اور کہو کہ اللہ (یا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم) تمہیں ان پر سواری کی اجازت دیتے ہیں، تو ان پر سوار ہو جاؤ۔ چنانچہ میں وہ اونٹ ان کے پاس لے گیا اور کہا: حبیبِ کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تمہیں ان اونٹوں پر سوار ہونے کی اجازت دیتے ہیں لیکن اللہ کی قسم! میں تمہیں نہیں چھوڑوں گا جب تک تم میں سے کچھ لوگ میرے ساتھ اس شخص کے پاس نہ چلیں جس نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی بات سنی ہے۔ یہ نہ سمجھو کہ میں تمہیں وہ بات بتا رہا ہوں جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے نہیں فرمائی۔ انہوں نے کہا: ہم تمہیں سچا سمجھتے ہیں اور جو تم چاہو کریں گے۔ راوی فرماتے ہیں: حضرت ابوموسیٰ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ ان میں سے کچھ لوگوں کو لے کر ان لوگوں کے پاس گئے جنہوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کا پہلے انکار والا اور پھر عطا والا ارشاد سنا تھا۔ ان لوگوں نے بھی وہی بات بتائی جو حضرت ابوموسیٰ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے انہیں بتائی تھی۔
