Hadrat Sa'd bin Abi Waqqas (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates that the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) visited me during Hajjat-ul-Wada while I was suffering from a disease which brought me to the verge of death. I submitted, 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! My ailment has reached such a state as you see, and I have much wealth, but I have no one to inherit from me except my only daughter. Shall I give two-thirds of my property as charity?' The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, 'No.' I submitted, 'Shall I give half of my property as charity?' He stated, 'No.' I submitted, 'One-third?' He stated, 'One-third, and even one-third is too much. It is better for you to leave your inheritors wealthy rather than to leave them poor, begging people for their sustenance; and whatever you spend for Allah's sake, you will receive reward for it, even for the morsel of food which you put in your wife's mouth.' I submitted, 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Should I remain in Mecca behind my companions who are going with you to Medina?' The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, 'If you remain behind, any good deed which you do for Allah's sake will elevate and upgrade you. Perhaps you will live longer so that some people may benefit by you and some others (i.e. the disbelievers) may be harmed by you.' Then he supplicated, 'O Allah! Complete the Migration of my Companions and do not turn them on their heels. But the poor Sa'd bin Khaula (not the above-mentioned Sa'd)!' The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) grieved for him because he died in Mecca.
الترجمة الأردية
حضرت سعد بن ابی وقاص رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ حبیبِ کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم حجۃ الوداع میں میری عیادت کے لیے تشریف لائے جبکہ میں ایک ایسی بیماری میں مبتلا تھا جس نے مجھے موت کے قریب پہنچا دیا تھا۔ میں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! میری بیماری اس حد تک پہنچ گئی ہے جیسا کہ آپ دیکھ رہے ہیں، اور میرے پاس بہت مال ہے لیکن میری ایک اکلوتی بیٹی کے سوا کوئی وارث نہیں۔ کیا میں اپنے مال کا دو تہائی صدقہ کر دوں؟ حبیبِ کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: نہیں۔ میں نے عرض کیا: کیا آدھا صدقہ کر دوں؟ ارشاد فرمایا: نہیں۔ میں نے عرض کیا: تہائی؟ ارشاد فرمایا: تہائی، اور تہائی بھی بہت ہے۔ اس سے بہتر ہے کہ تم اپنے وارثوں کو مالدار چھوڑو بجائے اس کے کہ انہیں محتاج چھوڑو کہ وہ لوگوں سے مانگتے پھریں؛ اور جو کچھ تم اللہ کی رضا کے لیے خرچ کرو گے اس کا تمہیں اجر ملے گا یہاں تک کہ وہ لقمہ بھی جو تم اپنی بیوی کے منہ میں رکھو۔ میں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا میں اپنے ساتھیوں سے پیچھے رہ جاؤں (جو آپ کے ساتھ مدینہ منورہ جا رہے ہیں)؟ حبیبِ کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اگر تم پیچھے رہ جاؤ تو جو نیک عمل بھی اللہ کی رضا کے لیے کرو گے اس سے تمہارا درجہ بلند ہوگا۔ شاید تم اور زندہ رہو تاکہ بعض لوگ تم سے فائدہ اٹھائیں اور بعض (یعنی کفار) کو تم سے نقصان پہنچے۔ پھر آپ نے دعا فرمائی: اے اللہ! میرے صحابہ کی ہجرت کو مکمل فرما اور انہیں اُلٹے پاؤں نہ لوٹا۔ لیکن بیچارے سعد بن خولہ (یہ اوپر والے سعد نہیں ہیں)! رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے سعد بن خولہ پر افسوس کیا کیونکہ وہ مکہ مکرمہ میں فوت ہو گئے تھے۔
