It is narrated from Hadrat Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be well pleased with him) who said: The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) led the prayer. Ibrahim (may Allah's mercy be upon him) said: I do not know whether he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) prayed more or fewer (rak'at than usual). When he concluded with salam, it was said to him, 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), has something new been decreed regarding the prayer?' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated, 'What is the matter?' They said, 'You prayed such and such (number of rak'at).' So he turned his blessed legs and faced the Qiblah and performed two prostrations (of forgetfulness), then said salam. Then he faced us and stated, 'Had there been anything new regarding the prayer, I would surely have informed you. But I am a human being like you — I forget just as you forget. So when I forget, remind me. And if any of you has doubt in his prayer, let him judge what seems correct and complete his prayer accordingly, then say salam, then perform two prostrations (of forgetfulness).'
الترجمة الأردية
ہم سے حضرت عثمان بن ابی شیبہ نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے جریر نے منصور سے بیان کیا، انہوں نے ابراہیم رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ سے، انہوں نے علقمہ رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ سے، انہوں نے فرمایا کہ حضرت عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے نماز پڑھائی۔ ابراہیم رحمۃ اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ نے فرمایا مجھے نہیں معلوم آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے (رکعتیں) زیادہ پڑھیں یا کم۔ جب آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے سلام پھیرا تو آپ سے عرض کیا گیا یا رسول اللہ! کیا نماز میں کوئی نیا حکم آیا ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا کیا بات ہے؟ لوگوں نے عرض کیا آپ نے اتنی اتنی رکعتیں پڑھیں۔ یہ سن کر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنے مبارک پاؤں موڑے اور قبلے کی طرف رخ کیا اور (سہو کے) دو سجدے فرمائے پھر سلام پھیرا۔ پھر ہماری طرف متوجہ ہوئے اور ارشاد فرمایا اگر نماز میں کوئی نئی بات ہوتی تو میں تمہیں ضرور بتا دیتا، لیکن میں بھی تمہاری طرح ایک بشر ہوں، جس طرح تم بھولتے ہو ویسے ہی میں بھی بھول جاتا ہوں۔ پس جب میں بھول جاؤں تو مجھے یاد دلاؤ اور اگر تم میں سے کسی کو نماز میں شک ہو جائے تو جو درست لگے اس پر عمل کرے اور اسی پر نماز مکمل کرے پھر سلام پھیرے، پھر (سہو کے) دو سجدے کر لے۔
