حَدَّثَنا إبراهيم بن نصر حفص بن عمر حَدَّثَنا عبد الله بن حسان قال حَدَّثَنِي القلوص بنت عليبة وكانت تحت شهاب بن مدلج الكعبي أنه كان بالبصرة ثم تعرب فنزل اللهابة فكثر بها ماله وولده ثم تساب بنوه في قومهم فقالوا يا بني ا��منافق ترك أبوكم الهجرة وتعرب وأنه وجد ذاك في نفسه أن سب بذاك فدعا ابنه سلمان فأتاه برواحل ثلاث فحمل غلامه على زاملة وارتحل هو وابنه ثم خرج حتى أتى بقيع رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ثم أخذ بيد ابنه سلمان حتى أتيا الدوسي أبا هريرة رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ صاحب رسول الله صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يحدث الناس فكان أول ما فهموا منه أن قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسلم ذات يوم إن من خير الناس رجلين رجل أنفق ماله في سبيل الله عز وجل ثم غزا بنفسه حتى هبط بلادا يسوء العدو أن يهبطها ثم يموت أو يقتل أو رجل من أهل البادية في إبله يتنحى عن شرور الناس ويقيم الصلوات الخمس ويعطي حق ماله ويعبد الله حتى يأتيه اليقين فبرك شهاب على ركبتيه حتى قابله فقال أنت سمعتها مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قال أي والذي نفس أبي هريرو بيده حتى حلف لها بها ثلاث مرار فاكتفى شهاب من الفتيا التي جاء يطلب ثم قام فصلى سجدات ثم أتى ركابه فركبها حتى جعلوا المدينة خلف ظهورهم فقال لابنه والذي نفس شهاب بيده لولا ما حَدَّثَنِي الدوسي ما تعربت ساعة أبدا إلا عابر سبيل ثم رجع وتلين لضيفه وسائله وثبت بناديه حتى مات أبو المليح بنوه في قومهم فقالوا يا بني المنافق ترك أبوكم الهجرة وتعرب وأنه وجد ذاك في نفسه أن سب بذاك فدعا ابنه سلمان فأتاه برواحل ثلاث فحمل غلامه على زاملة وارتحل هو وابنه ثم خرج حتى أتى بقيع رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِالْمَدِينَةِ ثم أخذ بيد ابنه سلمان حتى أتيا الدوسي أبا هريرة رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ صاحب رسول الله صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يحدث الناس فكان أول ما فهموا منه أن قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسلم ذات يوم إن من خير الناس رجلين رجل أنفق ماله في سبيل الله عز وجل ثم غزا بنفسه حتى هبط بلادا يسوء العدو أن يهبطها ثم يموت أو يقتل أو رجل من أهل البادية في إبله يتنحى عن شرور الناس ويقيم الصلوات الخمس ويعطي حق ماله ويعبد الله حتى يأتيه اليقين فبرك شهاب على ركبتيه حتى قابله فقال أنت سمعتها مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قال أي والذي نفس أبي هريرو بيده حتى حلف لها بها ثلاث مرار فاكتفى شهاب من الفتيا التي جاء يطلب ثم قام فصلى سجدات ثم أتى ركابه فركبها حتى جعلوا المدينة خلف ظهورهم فقال لابنه والذي نفس شهاب بيده لولا ما حَدَّثَنِي الدوسي ما تعربت ساعة أبدا إلا عابر سبيل ثم رجع وتلين لضيفه وسائله وثبت بناديه حتى مات أبو المليح
الترجمة الإنجليزية
Ibrahim ibn Nasr narrated to us — Hafs ibn Umar narrated to us — Abdullah ibn Hassan narrated to us, he said: al-Qalus bint Ulaybah — who was the wife of Shihab ibn Mudlij al-Ka'bi — narrated to me that he was in Basrah, then he returned to the desert and settled in al-Lahabah where his wealth and children multiplied. Then his sons were taunted among their people, who said: O sons of the hypocrite — your father abandoned the Hijrah and went back to Bedouin life. He found that deeply distressing that he was taunted with that. So he called his son Salman, who brought him three riding camels. He loaded his servant on one of them and he and his son set out until they reached the cemetery of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) in Madinah. Then he took his son Salman by the hand until they came to the Dawsi, Abu Hurairah (may Allah be well pleased with him), the Companion of the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), who was narrating to the people. The first thing they understood from him was that he said: The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) said one day: "Indeed among the best of people are two men: a man who spent his wealth in the path of Allah, the Almighty, then fought in person until he entered a land that the enemy would hate for him to enter, then he dies or is killed; or a man from the people of the desert among his camels who keeps away from the evils of people, performs the five prayers, gives the right of his wealth, and worships Allah until certainty [death] comes to him." Shihab fell to his knees and faced him and said: Did you hear this from the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)? He said: Yes, by the One in Whose hand is the soul of Abu Hurairah — and he swore to it three times. Shihab was satisfied with the ruling he had come to seek. He then stood and prayed some prostrations, then went to his mounts and rode them until they had left Madinah behind. He said to his son: By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Shihab, were it not for what the Dawsi narrated to me, I would never have returned to desert life for even a moment, except as a traveler passing through. Then he returned and was gentle to his guest and his questioner, and stayed in his gathering until he died. [Through] Abu al-Mulayh.
