Abda ibn Abdullah narrated to us, he said: Zayd ibn al-Hubab informed us, he said: al-Husayn ibn Waqid informed us from Abdullah ibn Burayda (may Allah be pleased with him) that a black woman vowed that if Allah, Blessed and Most High, brought His Messenger back safely from a military expedition, she would beat a drum over his head. When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) returned, she came and said: "O Messenger of Allah, I vowed that if Allah, Blessed and Most High, brought you back safely, I would beat a drum in your presence." He said: "If you have vowed, then fulfill it; otherwise, do not." So she beat the drum. Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) entered while she was beating, and others entered while she was beating. When Umar came, she threw the drum down. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I am here, and Abu Bakr [is here], but I think the Shaytan truly flees from you, O Umar." This hadith, we do not know it to be narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with this wording except from Burayda, and we do not know any route for it from Burayda except this route.
