سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ يُكَفِّرُ السَّنَةَ وَسُئِلَ عَنْ صِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ فَقَالَ يُكَفِّرُ سَنَتَيْنِ سَنَةً مَاضِيَةً وَسَنَةً مُسْتَقْبِلَةً أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ يَحْيَى السُّكَّرِيُّ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ إِسْمَاعِيلُ الصَّفَّارُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ ثنا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أنبأ الثَّوْرِيُّ أَخْبَرَنِي مَنْصُورٌ عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ فَذَكَرَهُ البيهقي ٨٣٨٢: عن

Abu Hurayra reported: A man came to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and said: 'I am ruined, O Messenger of Allah!' He said: 'What has ruined you?' He said: 'I had intercourse with my wife during Ramadan while fasting.' He said: 'Can you free a slave?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Can you fast two consecutive months?' He said: 'No.' He said: 'Can you feed sixty poor persons?' He said: 'No.' The Prophet sat, and then a large basket of dates was brought to him. He said: 'Give this in charity.' The man said: 'To someone poorer than us? There is no household between the two lava fields more in need than us.' The Prophet laughed until his pre-molar teeth showed, then said: 'Go and feed your family with it.'
