Abu Zakariyya ibn Abi Ishaq informed us, Abu Abdullah ibn Ya'qub informed us, Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab informed us, Ja'far ibn Awn informed us, Muslim al-Mula'i informed us from Zadhan from al-Rabi' ibn Khuthaym. He said: Abdullah — meaning Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) — saw a louse on a man's garment in the mosque. He took it and buried it in the pebbles, then said: 'Did We not make the earth a gathering place for the living and the dead?' [al-Mursalat 25-26]. Something similar is mentioned from Mujahid, and from Ibn al-Musayyib: he buries it like mucus. It was reported from Malik ibn Yakhamir that he said: I saw Mu'adh ibn Jabal killing lice and fleas during prayer. And from al-Hasan who said: There is no harm in killing lice during prayer, but one should not fidget.
