Abu Nasr Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Umar ibn Qatadah informed us, Ali ibn al-Fadl ibn Muhammad ibn Aqil al-Khuza'i informed us, Abu Shu'ayb al-Harrani informed us, Ali ibn Abdullah al-Madini narrated to us, Yahya ibn Sa'id narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us from Qatadah. He said: I heard Jabir ibn Zayd narrating from Ibn Abbas from the Prophet (peace be upon him) who said: 'The menstruating woman and the dog interrupt the prayer.' Yahya — i.e., al-Qattan — said: No one raised this hadith from Qatadah other than Shu'bah. Yahya said: And I distinguish it. He said: Ibn Abi Arubah and Hisham narrated it from Qatadah — meaning as mawquf (stopped). Yahya said: I was told that Hammam inserts Abu al-Khalil between Qatadah and Jabir ibn Zayd. Ali said: Hammam did not raise the hadith. The Shaykh said: What is established from Ibn Abbas is that nothing of that invalidates the prayer but it is disliked. This indicates from his statement along with his saying 'interrupts' that what is meant by interruption is other than invalidation. It is also narrated from another route from Ibn Abbas.
