أَخْبَرَنَاهُ أَبُو نَصْرٍ عُمَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ قَتَادَةَ أنبأ أَبُو الْفَضْلِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ خَمِيرَوَيْهِ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ نَجْدَةَ ثنا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أَبِي خَالِدٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ أَبِي حَازِمٍ قَالَ لَمَّا وَفَدَ جَرِيرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ إِلَى عُمَرَ وَعَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ وَنَاسٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ لِجَرِيرٍ يَا جَرِيرُ وَاللهِ لَوْمَا أَنِّي قَاسِمٌ مَسئُولٌ لَكُنْتُمْ عَلَى مَا قُسِمَ لَكُمْ وَلَكِنِّي أَرَى أَنْ أَرُدَّهُ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَرَدَّهُ وَكَانَ جَعَلَ رُبْعَ السَّوَادِ لِبَجِيلَةَ فَأَخَذُوا الْخَرَاجَ ثَلَاثَ سِنِينَ فَرَدَّهُ وَأَعْطَاهُ ثَمَانِينَ دِينَارًا

Abu Nasr Umar ibn Abd al-Aziz ibn Qatada informed us from Abu al-Fadl Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Khamirwayh, from Ahmad ibn Najda, from al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi', from Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak, from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid, from Qays ibn Abi Hazim who said: When Jarir ibn Abdullah came as a delegation to Umar and Ammar ibn Yasir and some of the Muslims, Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Jarir: O Jarir, by Allah, were it not that I am a distributor who will be held accountable, you would have kept what was divided for you, but I think I should return it to the Muslims. So he returned it and gave him eighty dinars.
