Imran ibn Husayn narrated: The Companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) captured a man from Banu 'Aqil, bound him, and threw him in the stony ground. The Messenger of Allah passed by him while we were with him - or he said, he came upon him on a donkey with a blanket under him. The man called out: 'O Muhammad, O Muhammad!' He came to him and said: 'What is the matter with you?' He said: 'Why was I seized?' He said: 'You were seized for the offense of your allies, Thaqif.' Thaqif had captured two men from the Companions of the Prophet. He called out again: 'O Muhammad, O Muhammad!' He said: 'What is the matter with you?' He said: 'I am a Muslim.' He said: 'Had you said that while you were in control of your affairs, you would have succeeded completely.' He left him and went on. The man called out: 'O Muhammad, O Muhammad!' He returned and said: 'What is the matter with you?' He said: 'I am hungry, so feed me, and I am thirsty, so give me water.' He said: 'This is your need.' The Messenger of Allah ransomed him in exchange for the two men whom Thaqif had captured. This is the wording of Ishaq's hadith.
