Ibrahim ibn Ishaq narrated to us, he said: Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Asim; and Ali ibn Ishaq said: Abdullah informed us, he said: Asim informed us, from Mu'adhah, from Aishah: that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to ask permission before coming to a wife when it was the turn of one of us, after this verse was revealed: "You may defer whichever of them you wish, and take to yourself whichever you wish, and there is no blame upon you if you seek out one whom you had set aside." She said: I said to her, "What would you say to him?" She said: I used to say to him, "If that choice is up to me, then I do not wish, O Messenger of Allah, to give preference to anyone over you."
