Hasan ibn Musa told us: Ibn Lahi'ah told us: Ibn Abi Ja'far told us, from Aban ibn Salih, from Ibn Abi Zakariyya al-Khuza'i, from Salman al-Khayr, that he heard him relating to Shurahbil ibn al-Simt while he was stationed on guard duty at the coast, saying: "I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: 'Whoever stands guard at the frontier for a day or a night, it is as if he fasted a month for one who sits at home. Whoever dies while standing guard in the way of Allah, Allah will continue his reward and the deeds he used to do -- the reward of his prayer, his fasting, and his charitable spending -- and he will be protected from the trial of the grave and secured from the greatest terror.'"
