Abdullah b. Hunayn said: I was with Ibn Abbas and al-Miswar at al-Abwa, and we spoke until we mentioned the washing of a pilgrim's head while in ihram. Al-Miswar said no, and Ibn Abbas said yes. So Ibn Abbas sent me to Abu Ayyub, saying, "Your nephew Abdullah b. Abbas sends you greetings of peace and asks you how the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, used to wash his head while in ihram." He said: I found him bathing between the two posts of a well, screened with a garment. When I made myself known to him, he drew the garment to his chest until his face appeared to me, and I saw him, with a person standing pouring water over his head. Abu Ayyub then gestured with both his hands together over his whole head, bringing them forward and back. Al-Miswar then said to Ibn Abbas, "I will never dispute with you again." [In Hajjaj's and Rawh's version]: When I identified myself and asked him, he drew the garment to his chest until his head and face appeared to me, with a person standing [pouring water].
