Zakariyya ibn Adi narrated to us, Baqiyyah informed us, from Bahir ibn Sa'd, from Khalid ibn Ma'dan, from Jubayr ibn Nufayr, from Abu Ayyub, who said: When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, arrived in Medina, the Ansar drew lots as to who would host the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and the lot fell to Abu Ayyub, so he hosted the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. Whenever food was given as a gift to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, it was given as a gift to Abu Ayyub too. He said: One day Abu Ayyub came in and found a bowl containing onions, and said: What is this? They said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent it. So Abu Ayyub went up to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah, what kept you from this bowl? He said: I saw in it onions. He said: Is it not lawful for us — the onion? He said: Yes, so eat it, but for my part something visits me that does not visit you. And Haywah said: 'something visits me that does not visit you.'
