حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبَانُ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ عَنْ زَيْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَّامٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيِّ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ أَرْبَعٌ فِي أُمَّتِي مِنْ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَا يَتْرُكُونَهُنَّ الْفَخْرُ فِي الْأَحْسَابِ وَالطَّعْنُ فِي الْأَنْسَابِ وَالِاسْتِسْقَاءُ بِالنُّجُومِ وَالنِّيَاحَةُ وَقَالَ النَّائِحَةُ إِذَا لَمْ تَتُبْ قَبْلَ مَوْتِهَا تُقَامُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَيْهَا سَرَابِيلُ مِنْ قَطِرَانٍ وَدِرْعٌ مِنْ جَرَبٍ.

'Affan narrated to us: Aban narrated to us: Yahya ibn Abi Kathir narrated to us, from Zayd, from Abu Sallam, from Abu Malik al-Ash'ari, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: 'Four things from the Age of Ignorance remain in my nation, which they do not abandon: boasting about lineages, defaming lineages, seeking rain by means of the stars, and wailing.' And he said: 'The wailing woman, if she does not repent before her death, will be made to stand on the Day of Resurrection wearing garments of tar and a shirt of scabs.'
