Sulayman b. Dawud al-Hashimi told us, Isma'il — that is, Ibn Ja'far — told us: Yazid b. Khusayfah informed me, that Busr b. Sa'id informed him, that he heard in a gathering of the Laythis mentioning that Sufyan told them that his horse had become exhausted at al-'Aqiq while he was on an expedition sent by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. He went back to him seeking a mount. Sufyan claimed, as they related, that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, went out with him seeking a camel for him, but found none except with Abu Jahm b. Hudhayfah al-'Adawi. He offered him a price for it, but Abu Jahm said to him: "I will not sell it to you, O Messenger of Allah, but take it and mount whoever you wish on it." He claimed that he took it from him and set out, and when he reached Bi'r al-Ihab, he claimed that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Buildings are about to reach this place, and Syria is about to be conquered, and men from the people of this land will come to it and be delighted by its fertile countryside and ease — yet Medina would be better for them, if only they knew. Then Iraq will be conquered, and a people will come measuring out grain, and they will move with their families and those who obey them — yet Medina would be better for them, if only they knew. Indeed Abraham prayed for the people of Mecca, and I ask Allah, Blessed and Exalted, to bless our sa' and our mudd for us just as He blessed the people of Mecca."
