حَدَّثَنَا وَهْبُ بْنُ جَرِيرٍ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي قَالَ سَمِعْتُ النُّعْمَانَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ حُسَيْنٍ عَنِ الْمِسْوَرِ بْنِ مَخْرَمَةَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا خَطَبَ ابْنَةَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَوَعَدَ بِالنِّكَاحِ فَأَتَتْ فَاطِمَةُ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَتْ إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ أَنَّكَ لَا تَغْضَبُ لِبَنَاتِكَ وَأَنَّ عَلِيًّا قَدْ خَطَبَ ابْنَةَ أَبِي جَهْلٍ فَقَامَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَحَمِدَ اللَّهَ وَأَثْنَى عَلَيْهِ وَقَالَ إِنَّمَا فَاطِمَةُ بَضْعَةٌ مِنِّي وَأَنَا أَكْرَهُ أَنْ تَفْتِنُوهَا وَذَكَرَ أَبَا الْعَاصِ بْنَ الرَّبِيعِ فَأَكْثَرَ عَلَيْهِ الثَّنَاءَ وَقَالَ لَا يُجْمَعُ بَيْنَ ابْنَةِ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ وَبِنْتِ عَدُوِّ اللَّهِ فَرَفَضَ عَلِىٌّ ذَلِكَ.
الترجمة الإنجليزية
Wahb ibn Jarir told us, my father told us, he said: I heard al-Nu'man narrating from al-Zuhri, from Ali ibn Husayn, from al-Miswar ibn Makhrama, that Ali proposed marriage to the daughter of Abu Jahl and promised to marry her. Fatima came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and said, "Your people are saying that you do not become angry for the sake of your daughters, and Ali has proposed to marry the daughter of Abu Jahl." So the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up, praised Allah and extolled Him, and said, "Fatima is a part of me, and I dislike that they should cause her distress." And he mentioned Abu al-'As ibn al-Rabi' and praised him greatly, and said, "The daughter of the Prophet of Allah and the daughter of the enemy of Allah shall never be brought together (in marriage to the same man)." So Ali gave up that proposal.
