Waki' told us, al-A'mash told us, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Abu Kabshah al-Anmari, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The example of this nation is the example of four men: a man to whom Allah has given wealth and knowledge, so he acts upon it with his wealth, spending it as is his due; and a man to whom Allah has given knowledge but not wealth, so he says, 'If I had the like of what this one has, I would act with it as he acts.'" He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "So the two are equal in reward. And a man to whom Allah has given wealth but not knowledge, so he handles it recklessly, spending it not as is its due; and a man to whom Allah has given neither wealth nor knowledge, so he says, 'If I had wealth like this, I would act with it as he acts.'" He said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "So the two are equal in sin." Muhammad ibn Ja'far told us, Shu'bah told us, from Sulayman, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd — and I heard him — narrating from Abu Kabshah al-Anmari, of Ghatafan, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said, "The example of my nation is the example of four men," and he mentioned the hadith, except he said, "a man to whom Allah gave wealth but not knowledge, so he handles it recklessly, neither maintaining kinship ties with it nor giving its due." Abdullah ibn al-Walid al-Adani told us, Sufyan told us, from Mansur, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Abu Kabshah, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gave the example of this nation as the example of four men, and he mentioned the hadith. Rawh told us, Shu'bah told us, from Sulayman, who said: I heard Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd say: I heard Abu Kabshah al-Anmari say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "The example of my nation is the example of four," and he mentioned the hadith.
