حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حِزَامُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ الْعَامِرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ الشَّيْبَانِيِّ عَنْ يُسَيْرِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو قَالَ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى سَهْلِ بْنِ حُنَيْفٍ فَقُلْتُ حَدِّثْنِي مَا سَمِعْتَ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ فِي الْحَرُورِيَّةِ قَالَ أُحَدِّثُكَ مَا سَمِعْتُ لَا أَزِيدُكَ عَلَيْهِ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَذْكُرُ قَوْمًا يَخْرُجُونَ مِنْ هَاهُنَا وَأَشَارَ بِيَدِهِ نَحْوَ الْعِرَاقِ يَقْرَءُونَ الْقُرْآنَ لَا يُجَاوِزُ حَنَاجِرَهُمْ يَمْرُقُونَ مِنْ الدِّينِ كَمَا يَمْرُقُ السَّهْمُ مِنْ الرَّمِيَّةِ قُلْتُ هَلْ ذَكَرَ لَهُمْ عَلَامَةً قَالَ هَذَا مَا سَمِعْتُ لَا أَزِيدُكَ عَلَيْهِ.

Abu al-Nadr narrated to us: Hizam b. Isma'il al-Amiri narrated to us, from Abu Ishaq al-Shaybani, from Yusayr b. Amr, who said: I went to Sahl b. Hunayf and said, "Tell me what you heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him," regarding the Haruriyyah. He said, "I will tell you what I heard, without adding to it: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, mention a people who would emerge from over here" — and he gestured with his hand toward Iraq — "who recite the Qur'an, but it does not pass beyond their throats; they will pass out of the religion as an arrow passes through its target." I said, "Did he mention any sign for them?" He said, "This is what I heard; I will not add to it."
