Abd al-Razzaq narrated to us: Ma'mar informed us from Abu Ishaq, from Abu al-Ahwas al-Jushami, from his father, who said: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, saw me while I was wearing worn-out garments, and said: Do you have wealth? I said: Yes. He said: From what kind of wealth? I said: From every kind of wealth; God, Mighty and Sublime, has given me sheep and camels. He said: Then let the blessing and favor of God be seen upon you - and he mentioned something similar to the hadith of Shu'bah. Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us: Shu'bah narrated to us from Abu Ishaq, he said: I heard Abu al-Ahwas narrate from his father, who said: I came to the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, while I was of shabby appearance, and he said: Do you have wealth? He said: I said: Yes. He said: From what kind of wealth? He said: I said: From every kind of wealth - from camels, slaves, horses, and sheep. He said: When God gives you wealth, let it be seen upon you. Then he said: Do your people's camels give birth with sound, unslit ears, and then you take a razor and slit their ears, saying, 'these are bahirah,' and slit their hides, saying, 'these are surum,' and thereby forbid them to yourself and your family? He said: Yes. He said: Indeed, what God, Mighty and Sublime, has given you is [lawfully] yours, and God's arm is stronger, and God's razor is sharper - and perhaps he said: God's arm is stronger than your arm, and God's razor is sharper than your razor. I said: O Messenger of God, tell me of a man I stayed with, who did not honor me or offer me hospitality, and then he stayed with me - should I repay him as he did, or offer him hospitality? He said: Offer him hospitality.
