Ali ibn Ishaq told us, Abdullah ibn al-Mubarak told us, Umar ibn Salamah ibn Abi Yazid told us, my father told me, who said: Jabir said to me: I said: "O Messenger of Allah, my father left behind a debt owed to Jews." He said: "I will come to you on Saturday, if Allah wills." That was at the time of the dates, with the palm trees having become ready for harvest. When it was the morning of Saturday, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, came to me. When he entered upon me by some water of mine, he approached the small stream and performed ablution, then he stood and went to the mosque and prayed two rak'ahs. Then I brought him near to a tent of mine and spread out for him a woolen cloak, and threw down a small cushion of woolen saddle-padding stuffed with palm fiber, and he reclined upon it. I had not waited long when Abu Bakr appeared, as though he had observed what the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, had done, so he performed ablution and prayed two rak'ahs. I had not waited long when Umar came, and performed ablution and prayed two rak'ahs, as though he had observed his two companions. Then they came in, and Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, sat at his head, and Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, sat at his feet.
