Affan told us, Hammad told us, from Ammar ibn Abi Ammar, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: My father was killed on the day of Uhud, and he left behind two gardens, and he owed a Jewish man a debt of dates, and the Jew's debt of dates consumed all that was in the two gardens. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Would you take part of it this year and defer the rest until next year?" But he refused. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "When the harvest comes, let me know." He said: So I informed him, and the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came along with Abu Bakr and Umar, and we began to harvest while it was measured out for him from the bottom of the palm trees, and the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, invoked blessing, until we paid him his due in full from the smaller of the two gardens, as Ammar reckoned. Then we brought them fresh dates and water, and they ate and drank. Then he said: "This is part of the bounty about which you will be questioned."
