Ibn Abi Adi told us, from Humayd, from Anas, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, marched to Khaybar and reached it at night. He said: It was the practice of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, that when he arrived somewhere at night, he would not raid them until morning; if he heard the call to prayer he would hold back, and if they were not praying he would raid them. He said: When morning came, he mounted, and the Muslims mounted. The people of the village went out to their fields carrying their baskets and their spades. When they saw the Messenger of Allah and the Muslims they said: Muhammad, by God — and the army! The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: Allah is greatest, Allah is greatest, Khaybar is destroyed! When we descend upon the courtyard of a people, evil is the morning of those who have been warned. Anas said: I was riding behind Abu Talhah, and my foot was touching the foot of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him.
