Ibn Abbas narrated: While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was sitting in the courtyard of his house in Mecca, Uthman ibn Maz'un passed by and smiled at the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Will you not sit?' He said: 'Yes.' So the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) sat facing him. While he was talking to him, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) raised his gaze to the sky and looked at it for a while, then lowered his gaze to his right on the ground. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) turned away from his companion Uthman toward where he had placed his gaze, and began nodding his head as if trying to understand what was being said to him, while Ibn Maz'un watched. When his need was fulfilled and he understood, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) raised his gaze until it disappeared into the sky, then turned back to Uthman with his former posture. He said: 'O Muhammad, in what I have been sitting with you, I have never seen you do what you did this morning.' He said: 'What did you notice?' Uthman said: 'I noticed.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'A messenger of Allah came to me while you were sitting.' He said: 'A messenger of Allah?' He said: 'Yes.' He said: 'What did he say to you?' He said: '"Indeed, Allah commands justice and good conduct and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality and bad conduct and oppression. He admonishes you that perhaps you will be reminded."' Uthman said: 'That is when faith settled firmly in my heart and I came to love Muhammad (peace be upon him).'
