Jabir said: "We arrived with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) on the morning of the fourth of Dhul-Hijjah, all of us having entered ihram for Hajj. The Messenger of Allah ordered us, and we circumambulated the Ka'bah, prayed, and performed sa'i between Safa and Marwah. Then he ordered us and we trimmed our hair. Then he said: 'Exit ihram.' We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what exactly are we permitted?' He said: 'Everything that is permitted for the non-pilgrim — women and perfume.' It was reported that some of them said: 'Shall one of us go to Mina while his private part is dripping with semen?' When the Prophet heard this, he stood and gave a sermon, praising and glorifying Allah, then said: 'If I could have foreseen what I came to know later, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal. And had I not brought the sacrificial animal, I would have shaved. Take your rituals from me.' The people remained until the Day of Tarwiyah, when they wanted to head to Mina, they entered ihram for Hajj. The sacrificial offering was for those who could afford it, and fasting for those who could not. He allowed them to share: a camel between seven and a cow between seven. Their circumambulation of the Ka'bah and sa'i between Safa and Marwah counted as one circumambulation and one sa'i for both their Hajj and their 'umrah. He did not mention the story of Suraqah ibn Malik."
