Abu Ayyub al-Ansari reported: "I had dates in a storage room, and I noticed they kept decreasing. I mentioned that to the Prophet (peace be upon him), who said: 'You will find a cat in it tomorrow. Say: Respond to the Messenger of Allah.' The next day I found a cat and said: 'Respond to the Messenger of Allah.' It transformed into an old woman and said: 'I adjure you by Allah, leave me, for I will not return.' I released it and went to the Prophet (peace be upon him), who said: 'What did the man and his captive do?' I told him, and he said: 'It lied, it will return.' I said to it: 'Respond to the Messenger of Allah.' It transformed into an old woman and said: 'I adjure you by Allah, O Abu Ayyub, leave me this time, for I will not return.' I released it and went to the Prophet (peace be upon him), who told me the same. This happened three times. On the third time, it said: 'I adjure you by Allah, O Abu Ayyub, leave me, and I will teach you something that no devil will hear and enter that house.' I said: 'What is it?' It said: 'Ayat al-Kursi — no devil hears it except that it flees.' I mentioned that to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and he said: 'It spoke the truth, even though it is a liar.'"
