'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas and al-Miswar ibn Makhramah disagreed about whether the muhrim may wash his head with water without being in a state of janabah. They sent me to Abu Ayyub, who was at one of the watering places of Makkah. I came to him and found Abu Ayyub between the two posts washing his head, having covered himself with a cloth. I asked him, and he lowered the cloth with his hand until his head was visible, then he moved his head and hair with his hands, bringing them forward through his hair and backward. Then he said: "This is how I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) bathe while in ihram." Ibrahim said: "I returned to them and informed them."
