Ibn Abbas reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When a mukatab (a slave who has entered a contract for his freedom) dies and leaves inheritance, or commits a crime requiring a legal penalty, he inherits according to the proportion of what has been freed of him, and the penalty is applied according to the proportion of what has been freed of him.'
